Awful Bliss (Rock Falls covers Guided By Voices) by Cardboard Sangria Records

The music of rock falls, singer/songwriter annie reese, exists in the first light of the day, when shadows are just becoming forms, and the world feels like it is rebuilding itself out of the night. Her hushed, soulful delivery belies a massive emotional power that smolders and lilts. Annie’s voice can halt a room from behind a ukelele, guitar, or full band.

“Like a haunted memory of a song, or maybe more like a field recording of ghosts striking up an impromptu orchestra beneath the full moon, this is very quality dreamfolk stuff… I’d append the “bedroom” moniker except this sounds so much like it was recorded in a park… the a-side is barely there (in a good way), faint guitar strums and distant toms are all that support the lilting, crystalline vocal, while on side-b a banjo leads a gentle hum of synth, horns, and cymbals underneath a voice like smoke. Very nice!”
