CS027 No Flies
$5
No Flies is built from improvisations at the piano, pulsing polyphonic layers that create a tense stillness that often breaks to a calm nothingness. Intensity emerges from rising and falling tempos, interlocked lines and a metaphysical glide. Expansive space that feeds on John Carpenter, Gavin Bryars and Brian Eno. This is running in slow motion, homework music, breathing exercises.
“I’m drawn to the tension that builds in my hands while I’m recording improvisations. I don’t have a sense of where I am heading until close to the end. These pieces lack traditional song structure and simply encapsulate a mood from the night I recorded them. The solitude of working alone, without a goal, I think, is captured in the recordings with enhancements of un-practised synths and bells.”
